The Playground - Spring 2022

Maximyz Newsletter

March 2022

Hello! It's been a while. We have finally come out of hibernation.

It's finally springtime! It is nice to see the sun shining, leaves coming back on trees, and warmer weather. Even the Covid pandemic looks like it may be turning a corner. Masks are coming off!

We at Maximyz are excited to see what the future holds and are pleased to announce new partnerships and new developments.

That's Interesting!

We learned something new called the hot and cold empathy gap. It describes how we tend to poorly guess how we will react, behave, and make decisions under different circumstances. How we understand it is that we have a hot and a cold state of mind. A hot state of mind is when we are in the moment. Someone cuts in front of us on the freeway, or we meet someone very attractive, or we are very hungry. A cold state of mind is when our emotions are calm and less influenced. We are relaxed, without threats or distractions.

In a cold state of mind, we tend to predict that we will exhibit more rational behavior in those 'hot' moments. We incorrectly tell ourselves, I am going to eat a salad at dinner tonight. I can do it. Then dinner comes and everyone is ordering steaks, lasagna, and alfredo. We smell all the restaurant smells and we open the menu and look at the salad. Our mouth waters and we don't want to be that person who orders a salad. So, our prediction was not so accurate after all. Have you ever had this happen to you? If so, tell us about it in the comments.

We really want people to be able to experience our online collaborative adventure challenges. So, we are going to start having regular events where anyone can get a chance to experience it for FREE!

If you haven't had a chance to see it for yourself, or if you know someone who might be interested, please check out the information below on our next one:

Date: Monday, March 21

Time: 3:00 pm EST

Current Thoughts

As we are starting to see masks going away, things opening up, and people going back to work, we see a real need for people to get reacquainted with each other. It may feel a bit awkward to show your face back at work and actually talk to a real live human again.

Of course, we are going to recommend playing a game together. Games are a great way to bond, socialize, and rekindle relationships. It can be any kind of game, cards, tennis, darts, anything.

So get out there and play together!

What's New at Maximyz?

We have been focused on growing our portfolio of games, our skills, and our partnerships.

We now have 6 total games available online for purchase and more on the way. They are ready to go and there are 2,4, and 6-person versions. We currently offer a 7-day, 100% unlimited license and are happy to discuss longer-term licensing for those who are interested.

Keep an eye out for our new 6-person adventure on bias and stereotypes. It is going to be a fun mystery solver with lots of twists and turns.

Lastly, we are testing out a 'choose your adventure' version right now. You and your colleagues are shipwrecked and have to work together to find your way out. Click this link to try it out for FREE: Lost Island

We are always still available for speaking events and love to give talks on these topics: culture, diversity, inclusion, belonging, teamwork, gamification of learning, and creativity.

Additionally, we are available for consultation on any project you have concerning any of the above topics.

Maximyz is proud to say that we have partnered with these great companies in order to provide added value to our clients.

This company has already done what we originally set out to do. They are great at software and analytics. We are great at stories and games. It was a perfect match! Although what we do is similar, it is different enough that we complement each other well. They have a cool team development game that generates a cool report on team dynamics. The great thing is that it can be done at scale. So large companies are able to gauge teamwork across the organization.

We have met many great people at this leadership training company. They have an awesome leadership compass program that has been developed and refined over many years. We have to say that it is the most comprehensive on thorough leadership program we have ever come across. Maximyz is proud to be their partner and can't wait to see what we can accomplish together.

Have a great one!
